Adding It Up, Now Bring On The Squirrels

Now that all the Thanksgiving activities have come and gone, it is time to get back down to the making of art. I took the day off yesterday, completely. Well, for the most part. The sketchbook kept finding a way to come out of his room and play throughout the day, but no real energy was put into it. It's good to take a bit of time for the family during the holidays, and I'm learning to enjoy other things in life besides painting and drawing. Honestly, to make the kind of work I make, I need to be around conversation and human activity to find those goofy moments that make my narratives happen. Now, I didn't say that I needed to be involved in conversation, just close enough to hear it or experience the moment when it happens. The comix are adding up, and I'm already getting excited about the way they are all going to look together hanging up. I've had a nice panel of friends drop in on me while I've been working on these, and they seem to at least get it, so that is good. Now onto comic #3. This one came to me like a flash of lightening while I was eating my lunch in the studio Wednesday. I had another one that I was gonna do, but this one just slid on in there like it had a purpose (I'm hoping the next 2 come as easy as this one). All I'll say about this strip is that it has squirrels and the word "nuts" in the punchline. It is some real potty humor, but I just can't resist. Trust me, the real punchline will be in the drawing. Man I love hiding stuff in the imagery. Man, you're so smart. So. Here we go. It's the day after Thanksgiving studio explosion. First I'm gonna make the fat boy breakfast, then the leftover turkey samwich for the road, grab a sixer of St. Pauli, throw on the studio grubbies, spin this bad ass Percy Sledge album over and over, lock the 2 doors between Spillmanville and Cooper, turn on the space heater and the hot lights, pull em up, and then get down to some serious bizzness.
Enjoy,
Spillmanville loves left over turkey samwiches.
